The enhanced 12C sports car will make its global debut at the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed with no less than Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button behind the wheel. The Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver will drive a Production Prototype version of the revised 12C in Goodwood on June 30. Furthermore, McLaren GT will unveil a McLaren 12C GT3 race car decorated with a distinctive livery, which emphasizes McLaren Group’s support of the ‘GREAT’ campaign launched by the Prime Minister’s Office and Department for Culture, Media and Sport this year. The GREAT campaign is intended to re-affirm the UK’s international reputation and produce long-term economic benefits through added tourism, trade and education.
McLaren Automotive launched the 12C at the 2010 Goodwood event. Last year, 12C GT3 made its public debut at the event. This is the third consecutive year that McLaren will debut a new version of its sports car. The 12C has been tweaked to offer better performance and styling. Its engine gets a power upgrade to 625PS (from 600PS) aside from throttle and gearshift modifications meant to improve the driving experience.
The styling options available for the 12C are a striking Volcano Yellow paint finish, exclusive new interior trim consisting of high quality Semi-Aniline perforated Leather and Alcantara, and a new Diamond Cut finish used for multiple wheel designs. For the Michelin Supercar Run at Goodwood, the Production Prototype 12C has gotten a Volcano Red exterior colour. It gets the new optional Leather interior and it will be available with Lightweight Forged Alloy Wheels in Diamond Cut finish. The new 12C model from McLaren can be seen up close throughout the event in the Goodwood Supercar Paddock.
