Deliveries of the MP4-12C to customers Canada and North America have begun. In celebration of the arrival of the 12C, McLaren is releasing a video of the vehicle and its first street drives all over North America. The video is available in the official YouTube channel of McLaren Automotive at youtube.com/mclarenautomotivetv. It was shot in five sites in the U.S. in some of the key markets where the company has dealerships. Moreover, the video was shot on location at the port of entry of McLaren in Baltimore, MD. The footage features the MP4-12C rolling off the cargo vessel Taisko, which had just arrived from the U.K. The video was produced and directed by TangentVector's Chief Creative Officer J.F. Musial, who recently introduced DRIVE -- the latest YouTube Original Channel focused on making original automotive content for the Internet.
The MP4-12C's arrival marks the introduction of McLaren Automotive in North America. The company intends to launch a new model in the North American market annually, reaching new enthusiast audiences and expanding its product range. The MP4-12C showcases a 3.8-liter V8 twin turbo engine, which produces 592hp and 600Nm of torque. The innovative sports automobile features no 'carryover' component from any other cars.
It can reach 60 mph from a standstill in 3.2 seconds, and only 3.0 seconds if Pirelli PZero Corsa tires are fitted on it. The unique carbon fiber 'MonoCell' chassis used in the 12C weighs just over 165 pounds, and is an obvious illustration of McLaren's motorsport DNA. In 1981, the company launched a carbon fiber monocoque in Formula 1. It has manufactured every one of its race and road automobile chassis since the same composite material was used.
