The McLaren MP4-12C will have a starting price of $229,000. This price is right on top of the Ferrari 458 Italia sticker, but it doesn’t include a destination charge or a gas guzzler tax that has yet to be determined. Antony Sheriff, Managing Director, McLaren Automotive Limited, said that the company had set out to offer a “unique concept” to the market as a vehicle that’s just “as good” as its rival won’t be good enough.
He added that McLaren has achieved its performance and design objectives for the 12C, which features technologically advanced MonoCell carbon-fiber chassis, highly efficient yet powerful 3.8-liter 592-horsepower powerplant, a dry weight of less than 2900 lbs.
He also said that the company is particularly proud for setting the price of the 12C at a level not reached by a carbon fiber-based vehicle before. There are currently only 35 McLaren dealerships around the world, and 10 of those located in North America.
Those North American dealerships are in Beverly Hills, Chicago, Dallas, Greenwich, San Francisco, Tampa Bay, Toronto, and Miami. The new ones on the list are Philadelphia and Newport Beach, putting three of the 10 North American dealerships in California. The 2012 McLaren MP4-12C will be offered in late summer 2011 as a 2012 model. [via Autoblog]
