McLaren Automotive has chosen Greg Levine as its new sales and marketing director to oversee the worldwide launch and marketing of the company's first high-performance road car, the 600hp MP4-12C. The MP4-12C is intended to be the first in a range of high-performance road cars from McLaren, best known for its F1-circuit racecars. The MP4-12C goes on sale in the United Kingdom and Europe in the spring of 2011. It’s expected to be priced at GBP169,505 in the U.K. and to have a starting price of EUR200,000 in the rest of Europe.
A former Audi UK sales executive, Levine brings 15 years of industry experience to the post. Levine, a South African native, was appointed Audi UK's head of operations in November 2008 after a five-year stint as head of sales and marketing at Audi South Africa.
He had held various product-development and marketing posts for Nissan and Fiat Auto in Europe and South Africa. While at Audi South Africa in 2007, Levine had successfully launched another high-performance exotic, the hand-built Audi R8. Levine's success at putting together the plan to launch such a rarified car to the market proved to be a major draw for McLaren. McLaren Managing Director Antony Sheriff said that Levine's knowledge of the retail business and brand-building is “excellent.” Sheriff also described Levine’s decision to take on the “crucial role” at McLaren Automotive is “testimony both to his drive and ambition.”
