McLaren Automotive denies that it has suspended the production of the new McLaren MP4-12C supercar. The automaker explained that its output is at its usual pace and that what’s actually happening is that the cars haven’t been permitted to leave the plant until it receives a software upgrade to repair a few electrical glitches. Complaints have been received from early customers about warning lights that are too sensitive and battery draining.
McLaren is producing the cars at its normal rate of around five a day. The automaker said that it will be releasing the cars to customers within the next two weeks as soon as the software upgrades are finalized.
A spokesman said that so far, about 100 MP4-12Cs have been delivered and that not all these cars had problems. The spokesman also emphasized that these problems are not related to the mechanism and do not affect safety. Those who already have the MP4-12C could ask their local dealership to install the software upgrade.
