McLaren teases its next supercar ahead of 2012 Paris Motor Show

Mclaren supercar teaser

McLaren has released a teaser sketch about its future plans, which it will showcase at the Paris Motor Show. The sketch includes a handful of flowing lines that evoke images of the MP4-12C. This could mean that it is the second model in its lineup. It is also expected to be the successor to the F1 that came out in the mid-1990s. McLaren announced that the stage has been set in the upcoming Paris show where it will start “the next exciting chapter.” If McLaren confirms that this is the F1 successor (for which a 2014 launch is unlikely), the car is likely to have the performance to beat most hypercars, which include the Bugatti Veyron, the Ferrari Enzo successor, and the upcoming Porsche 918 Spyder. Sources said that the car has been tested in Spain, Germany and Bahrain. It’s likely it will be priced near £1 million. For this limited production run, only 500 units will be built. There were earlier rumors that it will be powered by a V8 powerplant but it now appears that a V10 engine will be used. McLaren is developing this engine with Ricardo. McLaren is basing this car around a lightweight carbonfibre monocell similar to what the MP4-12C uses. In addition, the aluminium pushrod suspension will feature hydraulic anti-roll control, adaptive dampers and a five-stage traction control system. Offered as standard are Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, along with brake steer and electronic brake force functions. It’s also expected that McLaren will offer the ability to switch off the ABS on race tracks.
