McLaren will use hybrid technology on its future supercars

If yesterday it was just a rumor, today it became official: McLaren is planning a hybrid sports car as the British company is advertising for an electrical engineer to work on a “concept, design and development of the electrical package and wiring system for a hybrid electric vehicle”. Of course, McLaren wouldn’t confirm the fact that it is planning a hybrid car, but the firm’s spokesman did say that “hybrid technology is something that we are looking at and assessing. It is something we are interested in.”
If you remember, McLaren also advertised for a senior engineer in powertrain hybrid technology back in July 2009, and as usual, when it was asked about a hybrid car a company spokesman said “It [hybrid technology] is something we want as a forward-thinking, technology-driven company. We have been considering it for future projects.”
“All the advert means is that we are looking for a senior engineer in powertrain hybrid technology. Read into it what you will.” added the spokesman.
It appears that the British firm wants to develop its own full hybrid powertrains in order to compete with Ferrari or Lamborghini, which both confirmed that are working on hybrid powertrains. [via autocar]
