Lotus F1 Team has recently unveiled the E20, the car it will field against the globe’s bests at the 2012 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. The E20 car was so named as a commemoration of the 20th chassis designed at the team's Enstone HQ through its Benetton, Renault F1 Team and Lotus Renault GP history. The E20 features improvements and enhancements of previous Enstone design philosophies. The most notable enhancement is the abandonment, both via regulation and necessity, of the forward facing exhausts of the 2011 R31. The E20 now features a 'step' on the nose, a redesign that was a result of regulation change. The Lotus F1 Team also modified the car’s front and rear suspension layouts for better aerodynamic efficiency. The team also added a front wing, as a continuation of concepts used during recent seasons.
In designing the E20, the team quickly put into use its new 60% scale wind tunnel and its enhanced CFD facility, at its Enstone base. The Lotus F1 Team has added a couple of sponsors to its F1 World Championship quest -- Unilever’s Rexona and CLEAR, two of the world’s leading personal care brands. The team -- formerly known as Toleman, Benetton, Renault F1 Team and Lotus Renault GP -- will compete its 500th Grand Prix during this season. The E20 was unveiled at the team’s web site -- http://www.lotusf1team.com -- at 5:00pm CET.
"Toleman Motorsport entered Formula 1 in 1981 and started 57 Grands Prix, until in 1986 the team was renamed as Benetton. In this guise 260 races were contested, until in 2002 the team became Renault F1 Team. As Renault F1 Team, 159 Grands Prix were started, with the team becoming Lotus Renault GP for 2011, contesting a further 19 events. The current total of Grands Prix stands at 495." said the press release.
