Mercedes-AMG has revealed the new 2013 SL65 AMG as it enters the roadster season this year. The vehicle has a distinctively dynamic style and follows the latest introduction of the SL 63 AMG. The model is equipped with the AMG 6-liter V12 "biturbo" (twin-turbocharged) engine, which produces an output of as much as 630 hp and torque of at most 1000 newton meters. With these features, the automobile boasts of remarkable performance, naturally superior dynamics and impressive power delivery. An all-aluminum bodyshell is used in the new SL 65 AMG, just like the SLS AMG super sports automobile, resulting to a radical decrease in weight. The new automobile weighs around 170 kilograms lighter than its predecessor. The expressive front part of the automobile is marked by the new "twin blade" radiator grille and the lower cross of the front apron strut in shiny chrome.
The new model also features intelligent lightweight construction which improves the fuel efficiency of the vehicle. At 24.4 mpg (NEDC combined), the automobile is 17% more efficient compared to the previous SL 65 AMG. It also simultaneously marks a new benchmark in the 12-cylinder petrol engine segment. Among the features that play a big role in the reduction of fuel consumption are the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC transmission, in-engine measures to optimize efficiency, alternator management and the ECO start/stop function.
The new SL 65 AMG can accelerate to 62 mph from a standstill in 4 seconds, reaching the 125 mph mark in only 11.8 seconds. It can reach top speed of 155 mph (electronically limited). Moreover, the AMG 12-cylinder biturbo powerplant boasts of smooth running characteristics and its distinct AMG V12 sound. The market launch of the new Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG will take place in September 2012. The sales price in Germany (incl. 19% VAT) is: SL 65 AMG: 236,334 euros.
