Mercedes-Benz said that it plans to re-introduce a four-cylinder engine into the C-Class for the first time in the US market since 2005. Mercedes-Benz adds that a diesel variant will be on the way as well. We reported that Mercedes-Benz is expected to release new engine options for the freshened C-Class. To date, it has been confirmed that at least two of the engines will come to US soil.
Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz USA president Ernst Lieb has confirmed that a gasoline-powered four-cylinder engine will be available in addition to the BluTec four-cylinder diesel variant. Both engines are believed to soon arrive at US shores. No date has been given on its arrival but it is believed that the diesel will arrive with the next generation C-Class due for the 2011 model year. It will then be available before production shifts to Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 2014.
