Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR Coupe and Roadster to be auctioned in London

Mark your calendars for an auction on October 28 if you want the opportunity to acquire one of two rare 720bhp Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR supercars. For the record, the GT1 race car derived machine was created in the late 1990s, only 26 units of which were made, sorted out as 20 coupes and six roadsters. The auction will have one coupe and one roadster. Both are new, unregistered and with delivery miles only. While unconfirmed, it is believed that they were owned by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei. These two cars were custom built and are the only right-hand versions of the car.
The coupe is estimated at GBP370-390,000 while the roadster is priced at about GBP430,000-GBP500,000. That would make them only about a third of how they cost new. The CLK GTR is powered by an Ilmor modified 720bhp 6.9-litre naturally-aspirated V12 engine with dual overhead camshafts. It is claimed to have 572lb ft of torque and to have the ability to go 0-62mph in 3.4sec.
As proof of its race car lineage, it also has a six-speed sequential manual gearbox with paddle-shift operation, independent front and rear suspension with double wishbones, pushrod-actuated coil springs and shock absorbers, and four-wheel ventilated, anti-lock carbonfiber disc brakes. RM Auction's Automobiles of London will be officiating the auction.
