Mercedes-Benz G-Class to be produced until 2015

G-Class BA3 Final Edition

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class was created in the middle of the second oil crisis that happened in 1979. Even though the G-Class is already 30 years old the company plans to continue production for another six more years in its present guise. It was confirmed by Magna Steyr, an Austrian independent auto maker, that it will continue to build the vehicle until the end of 2015. It has already built 200,000 G-Class units and was an important factor of its development in the 70s. Originally intended as a military vehicle for the Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi of Iran, who was at the time a major Daimler shareholder, a civilian variant went on sale in 1979. Since that time, the G-Class has produced other varying versions including a high performance AMG version. For its 30th anniversary, Mercedes-Benz released a special edition this month.
