Mercedes-Benz revealed today the 2013 GLK a.k.a. a new facelift for its popular crossover, which promises to offer new fuel-efficient powertrains as well as a fresh design. The first visual impact with the 2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK shows a new set of headlights and new LED daytime running lights (found as standard on all models) in a chrome clasp. According to Mercedes-Benz, the basic GLK model comes with reflection-type headlamp, but on the models fitted with the the Intelligent Light System (ILS), the headlamp comprises the projection unit, a reflector and the torch with LED fibre-optic cables for the position light. There is no longer any differentiation between different types of bumpers with specific on-road and off-road packages. Moreover, the new GLK features new roof rails. The rear bumper was also updated and features a bold, sporty character while the tail lights have undergone a complete revamp in terms of both appearance and functions.
As you can see from the photos, the rear lamps feature fibre-optic cables and LEDs, while the new licence plate LED lamp provides a finishing touch. The car also received new wheels in size 43.2 cm (17-inch), 48.3 cm (19-inch) and 50.8 cm (20-inch), which will be available in various paint finishes or with a high-sheen finish. An aerodynamically optimised 43.2 cm (17-inch) wheel is available for the first time. As expected, the 2013 GLK will also be available with an AMG Sports package consisting of a front and rear apron, new radiator grille with two chrome slats, AMG LED daytime driving lights, 48.3 cm (19-inch) AMG 5-spoke light-alloy wheels and a sporty suspension setup. According to Mercedes-Benz, the features found on the AMG pack are based on the extended Exterior Chrome package.
The interior was also updated and the vehicle features a new dashboard, a high-end colour display (available as an option), new round vents and additional trim elements, new upholstery colours and seat designs as well as ambient lighting featuring LED fibre-optic technology. The GLK models fitted with the 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission come as standard with the DIRECT SELECT lever in ergonomically convenient position on the steering column tube. In this case, the GLK offers a new storage compartment in the centre console. The Interior Sports package was also updated and now offers sports seats in the GLK for the first time. Furthermore, the steering wheel was also updated and features a 3-spoke design. The GLK is fitted with the Audi 20 CD radio as standard, with the following functions: Twin tuner, TFT display with 14.7 cm (5.8") diagonal, mp3/wma/aac-compatible CD drive, USB interface incl. CD cover display, AUX-IN socket in the centre armrest, Bluetooth interface with hands-free function and audio streaming for music transfer, Telephone keypad.
Regarding the engines, the GLK 200 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY comes with a four-cylinder engine delivering 143 hp and 350 Nm of torque (0-100 km/h or 62 mph in 10.8 seconds; top speed 190 km/h – 118 mph); the GLK 220 CDI BlueEfficiency carries the same engine as the GLK 200 but on this model it delivers 170 hp and 400 Nm of torque (0-100 km/h or 62 mph in 8.7 seconds; top speed 205 km/h – 127 mph); GLK 220 CDI 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY is powered by the same four-cylinder engine delivering 170 hp and 400 Nm of torque (0-100 km/h or 62 mph in 8.8 seconds; top speed 205 km/h – 127 mph); the GLK 220 BlueTEC 4MATIC delivers 170 hp and 400 Nm of torque (0-100 km/h or 62 mph in 8.8 seconds; top speed 205 km/h – 127 mph); the GLK 250 BlueTEC 4MATICdelivers 204 hp 500 Nm of torque (0-100 km/h or 62 mph in 8.0 seconds; top speed 210 km/h – 130 mph); the GLK 350 CDI 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY comes with a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine delivering 265 hp and 620 Nm of torque (0-100 km/h or 62 mph in 6.4 seconds; top speed 232 km/h – 144 mph); the GLK 350 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY is the most powerful version and comes with a 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine delivering 306 hp and 370 Nm of torque (0-100 km/h or 62 mph in 6.5 seconds; top speed 238 km/h – 147 mph).
