Mercedes-Benz introduces the first double-clutch transmission in a truck

Regarded as one of the most important technological features to have come out in the past few years, dual clutch transmissions have come a long way. In fact, the dual-clutch gearbox can now be found in the trucks segment, with Daimler's Fuso brand providing the first dual-clutch transmission for this type of vehicle. These transmissions don't have the disadvantages of the classic automatic transmissions that use torque converters.
Shifting times are expected to increase as fuel consumption and emissions rise too. The driver also receives enhanced comfort. These transmissions also raise the level of driving safety, as the power is continuously transmitted to the driven wheels. The transmissions are very similar to a fully automatic transmission it is a two-pedal system, as there is an accelerator pedal, a brake pedal and a selector lever.
According further to the press release, the selector lever allows automatic or manual gearshift mode to be selected. This gearbox, which is dubbed as the Duonic transmission or M038S6, has six forward gears and a reverse gear. A wet clutch is used and multiple functions are offered, including a P-function (for parking) and a creep function, which is useful in facilitating slow parking maneuvers.
