The Mercedes-Benz Museum welcomed 701,000 guests from 175 countries in 2011, which marks the car’s 125th anniversary. The museum conducted almost 4,000 guided tours in ten languages. Majority of the museum’s visitors came from Germany, China, USA, France and Switzerland. Foreign guests accounted for around 27% of the total visitors.
The museum’s remodeled Legend 6 exhibition room and 'Art & Stars & Cars' exhibition added extra glitter, attracting more visitors. Around 40% of total visitors came on recommendations from friends and associates, while seven percent came after learning about the museum from the media. Facebook and Twitter also helped in increasing public awareness of the museum. Many of the guests were first timers while two-thirds spent more than three hours in the museum.Regular visitors were also more than satisfied of the Mercedes-Benz Museum, with over 90% saying their expectations had been surpassed and 98% stating they would recommend the museum.
"Another successful year is drawing to a close. Since the opening in May 2006, over 4.2 million people have visited the Mercedes-Benz Museum," says Michael Bock, head of Mercedes-Benz Classic. "125 years after its invention, the automobile retains its special fascination to this day – the figures speak for themselves. We are particularly pleased about the high proportion of international visitors. Once again this year, almost a third of our guests came from abroad. This international appeal is attributable both to the anniversary year of the automobile and to our extensive programme in 2011."
