Mercedes-Benz offering a 200-euro service voucher for diesel engine malfunction

Daimler has offered a 200-euro service voucher for those affected by an engine malfunction discovered in four-cylinder diesel engines available on Mercedes-Benz C-Class, E-Class and GLK. According to Autonews, an injection system supplied by Delphi contains defective electrical equipment that would cause the engine to automatically enter emergency mode and apply a series of limitations, such as a maximum speed of 70 km/h. The unnamed source said that the engine is internally known as OM 651.
Reportedly, Delphi has already fixed the glitch in about 2,800 cars but now, it appears that more than 25,000 vehicles equipped with this kind of injection system were sold in Germany. Since the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class debuted in spring 2009, it has sold more than 40,000 cars. Just last month, the station wagon version of the car was unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show.
Klaus Maier, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars, asserts that the E-Class sedan's status as global market leader in May is a testimony of how well it is being received by its customers. He believes that the popularity is a result of the car's dynamic design and the new generation of efficient engines. Maier added that the E-Class is an exemplary embodiment of the brand's basic attributes of safety, comfort, and quality. He said that the new E-Class sets the standards when it comes to economy in the upper-range segment. [via autonews]
