Mercedes-Benz planning to unveil 20 new models by 2014

Mercedes-Benz, like other carmakers, is convinced that rolling out new models will be effective in keeping sales up. Earlier this week, Mercedes-Benz revealed that it plans a 20-model lineup that will be released by 2014. It's apparent that the carmaker is looking at diversifying and expanding its offering as a way to prevent sales from plunging. In 2011, the first model-- the C-Class facelift -- will arrive together with the coupe intended to compete directly with the BMW 3-Series. Mercedes will also introduce the new generation M-Class and the new SLK in 2011. And in 2012, the production version of the electric supercar -- the SLS AMG E-Cell -- will hit the streets in perfect timing to rival Audi's e-Tron electric sports car. The new SL-Class coupe, the CLS, and the A- and B-Class, will also be released in 2012. Meanwhile, dealerships will get the GLK line in 2013 and the cabrio version of the CL in 2014. Oher brands owned by the Daimler Group will also be using the same strategy of creating new models or improving its lineup. In 2012, Smart will release the new fortwo, the product of the alliance with Renault and Nissan.
