Daimler AG estimates that its fourth-quarter sales volume at its Mercedes-Benz passenger-car division will significantly increase as year-earlier figures contribute to flattering growth rates in November. In a statement, Joachim Schmidt, Mercedes' head of sales and marketing, said that the company built on October's positive development in November and that worldwide sales have increased significantly. He added that the launch of its key E-class medium-premium sedan this year has raised drive demand.

In fact, car's global retail sales volume doubled to 15,700 last month. He expressed confidence that its new E-class station wagon, which arrived at dealerships on Nov. 21, will further improve sales in the next few weeks. In November 2009, the Mercedes-Benz brand recorded sales of 88,600 units, a 19% increase to November 2008's sales. Smart brand sales dropped by 4 percent to 9,800 cars in November, bringing total volumes for last month at the Mercedes-Benz Cars division to 98,400 vehicles. This translates to a 16 percent increase. Through November, the combined forces of Mercedes and Smart have sold 1,021,700 cars, an 11.8 percent decrease compared with the same period last year.
