Players and VIPs of the 2010 US Open tournament will get the chance to use any unit from a fleet of vehicles provided by Mercedes Benz, a traditional partner of the US Tennis Association (USTA). Included in these vehicles are the Mercedes-Benz S400 HYBRID sedans and Mercedes-Benz F-CELL. Mercedes-Benz will provide 75 S400 Hybrid vehicles for players and VIPs, representing 60% of the total fleet of cars intended for the event. Supplying environmentally friendly vehicles to be used in the tennis event is part of USTA's environmental program that was started in 2007. At the event, the association will also apply recycling, energy management, composting and utilizing paper products made of at least 30% post-consumer waste. There is also the new green PSA campaign hosted by Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin. Mercedes is taking this opportunity to put into practice what it describes to be a series of measures that is intended to promote eco-mobility. Stephen Cannon, vice president of Marketing for Mercedes-Benz USA, expressed his excitement at the company’s participation in the USTA's environmental strategy. He expects that the Mercedes-Benz transportation fleet will “positively impact the US Open green initiatives.”
