Mercedes-Benz revives the legendary 190D with BlueEFFICIENCY technology

Mercedes-Benz 190D BlueEFFICIENCY
Mercedes-Benz decided to experiment on merging the old with the new by fitting the 21-year-old Mercedes 190 with the OM651 common-rail engine. The engine, which was sourced from the C 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, develops 204 horsepower and 500 Nm between 1600 and 1800 rpm, twice as much as the old W 201-series. Due to this new engine, the 190 can accelerate from zero to sixty in 6.2 seconds, a phenomenal 11.9 seconds faster than the original 190 D. The new engine is definitely more economic as it uses 4.9l/km (48 mpg), compared to the 7.3l/100 km (32.2 mpg) in 1988.
In addition, the 190 was fitted with seven airbags, the adaptive Agility Control suspension and assistance systems such as ESP and Adaptive Brake. Adding further to the appeal, the revived Baby-Benz now features multi-adjustable seats and electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors. When asked about the purpose of this project, Mercedes says it is only an experimental vehicle.
Mercedes said that it was wondering "how might one make the 20-year progress directly tangible, in isolation from the equally profound changes in the safety and comfort of the car as a whole?" As a result, the 190 D BlueEFFICIENCY was created. For the record, the 190 is now 74 hp more powerful, 11.9 seconds faster, and twice as fuel efficient.
