Mercedes-Benz S400 BlueHYBRID preparing for U.S. debut this summer
This coming summer we will see the new S400 BlueHYBRID, the first passenger car version with a hybrid drive system from Mercedes-Benz. The S400 combines a revised V6 powerplant with a compact hybrid module for the world’s most economical spark-ignition engined luxury sedan. The total fuel consumption for the NEDC is 7.9 liters per 100km and CO2 emission rating is 190g/km.
These impressive numbers also come with high performance with the 3.5-liter gasoline unit generating 205kW (279hp), while the electric unit comes with an additional 15kW (20hp) and a starting torque of 160 Nm. The combined total is 220kW (299hp) and 285Nm of torque. The S 400 is also the first to be equipped with the most efficient automotive lithium-ion batteries – another contribution of Mercedes-Benz to the EV trend. The S400 is derived from the S350 and comes with a heavily revised drivetrain with the magneto-electric motor, the 7G-Tronic 7-speed auto transmission, particularly arranged for the hybrid module, the required operating and control electronics, the transformer and high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack. The hybrid module functions as a starter and generator, offering both fuel efficiency and driving pleasure. Thanks to the booster effect of the electric motor as it backs up the gasoline powerplant with 160Nm of maximum torque during the high-consumption accelerations. The result is enhanced torque traits and overall pleasurable driving experience. Photo gallery after the jump!
