Mercedes-Benz sales expected to grow more than 60% year-on-year in China

Mercedes-Benz has high hopes in China. It expects that brand sales will rise more than 60% year-on-year, propelled mainly by the demand for the flagship E- and S-Class sedans. Sales for these two models are seen to be a key driver of future sales. Last week, parent Daimler AG admitted that the demand for luxury cars in China led to Mercedes-Benz achieving a new sales record in China for every month of this year. In a statement, Mercedes-Benz Cars sales chief Joachim Schmidt said that it will expand its presence in the Chinese market in 2010. He also said that he fully expects the company's growth to be faster than the overall market. November's sales of 8,700 Mercedes-Benz brand vehicles improved overall sales in 2009 to 60,700 units, which represent a 56% gain. Accounting for one-fifth of that volume is the flagship S-Class, the largest and most expensive model offered by Mercedes-Benz short of an ultraluxury Maybach limousine.
