Mercedes-Benz has sold the 1,000th unit of the AMG range in 2010 in the Asia Pacific region. At its headquarters, the carmaker revealed that this unit was purchased by a customer in Sydney, Australia. This anniversary model -- an SLS AMG – is the first and only model in the world to be painted in Designo magno Night Black, and to feature red badging and paint highlights inside and out. This is actually the vehicle that was shown at the 2010 Australian International Motor Show.
Horst von Sanden, Mercedes Benz managing director, said that the company aimed to come up with “something truly unique” when it developed the one of a kind “Blackbird,” which is all more special since it is the 1,000th AMG sold in 2010. To signify its status, the car will bear a special plaque. The car market in Australia appears to have taken a liking to AMG vehicles. In this range, the most successful one is the C63 AMG, which sold 500 units this year. Coming in second is the E63 AMG, which posted a 50% increase in sales in Australia.
Mario Spitzner, Director Branding and Marketing AMG said “The performance of AMG in Australia Pacific is absolutely fantastic. We regard Australia as one of the most important and loyal AMG markets in the world and we congratulate the more than one thousand new AMG owner’s downunder for helping us achieve this milestone. A special thanks goes to our colleagues at Mercedes-Benz Cars in Australia who are perhaps even bigger fans of AMG than all of us here at Affalterbach! I don’t want to give away too much but you haven’t seen the last of special vehicles from the AMG Performance Studio.”
