The Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studio designers in Carlsbad, California, have produced "Silver Lightning," a Hollywood-style tribute for Mercedes-Benz to 125 years of innovation in automotive design and technology. The lead roles are played by the Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrow cult racing car and crash test dummies -- the two high-tech characters that have been instrumental in integrating stylish design and safety in vehicles.
The movie is set in an age of artificial intelligence. Hans05 and Franz02, names of two crash test dummies, take on evil ruler Dr. Crash-Barrier to save their beloved Mercedes Silver Arrow. The two fight the ruthless battering ram before finally outfoxing him.
The Silver Arrow is a low-lying sculpture on wheels. A feat of technical innovation is the hubless, diagonal roller which enables steering in all directions. The futuristic proportions of Silver Arrow are reminiscent of the Uhlenhaut SLR from the 1950s and the famous sports vehicle from the late 1930s.
