AMG boss Volker Mornhinweg announced that Mercedes-Benz has begun conducting road tests of the electric SLS supercar, which remains on target for a 2013 launch.

Mornhinweg told Autocar that AMG engineers are confident that the electric SLS AMG will meet all of its performance objectives: a 0-60mph time of 4.0 seconds with a battery range of around 110 miles. Mornhinweg said that the company is on target to meet all of its objectives and that it has plenty of time to fine tune. Mornhinweg also expressed excitement in being able to test-drive drive the recently launched petrol version. Continued after the jump!

He said, “Effectively being four-wheel-drive does alter its character, but our torque vectoring systems give us opportunities to make it as good.”

He talked about getting the emotional level of an EV right as having been able to find solutions.

Mornhinweg denied though that Merc was looking at noise generation systems, dismissing them as “too artificial.”

The electric SLS is powered by three batteries, which add up to power equivalent to 525bhp and 649lb ft of torque.

As a result, the production car is slated to come in at 1900kgs, compared to the 1620kg petrol version.
