Mercedes-Benz broke old sales records in the United Kingdom in September 2012, led by its C-Class. The carmaker’s C-Class Saloon broke the record by logging 4,654 registrations. The vehicle’s feat was mirrored by the C-Class Estate and the C-Class Coupé with 1,425 and 1,869 registrations, respectively. Mercedes’ SLK roadster was also popular in the UK in September 2012 with 1,268 registrations to top its market segment. The carmaker’s B-Class also posted its highest registration figures in September with 1,415 vehicles, bringing the registration numbers to 5,165 units in the first nine months of 2012. Mercedes’ AMG unit was not to be outdone as it posted a 122.8-percent increase in registrations for September 2012, and had a 141.2 percent jump for first nine months of the year.
The carmaker also posted a 28.5-percent hike overall in commercial vehicle sales for September 2012. With the Vito and Sprinter vans logging large percentage jumps, Mercedes’ van range posted 4,478 registrations in September, contributing to an 18.5-percent increase in the first nine months of 2012.
Marcus Breitschwerdt, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz UK remarked that the diversity of the gains across the range suggests that the carmaker is “extremely well placed” in the market with the “right products at the right time.” Breitschwerdt said the record results came as the Mercedes-Benz UK is yet to roll out the new A-Class into the UK market. Mercedes is holding a 4.6- and 4.4-percent market share for September and for the year-to-date respectively.
