Mercury’s advertising budget will be used for Lincoln’s 2011 campaign

Bob Tasca Jr., head of the Lincoln National Dealer Council, said Ford Motor Co. will divert the defunct Mercury brand's entire advertising budget into Lincoln. Such a move will fund a Lincoln marketing blitz. Tasca told Automotive News that one can expect Lincoln to have a stronger presence in 2011. In October 2010, Lincoln started a campaign featuring "Mad Men" actor John Slattery. Lincoln spokesman Christian Bokich wrote in an e-mail that the automaker is making way for seven new or significantly refreshed vehicles to be launched in the next four years.

Tasca said the ads will highlight the restyled 2011 MKX crossover, the refreshed 2011 MKZ sedan and the MKZ hybrid. Tasca owns Tasca Automotive Group, with Ford-Lincoln stores in Cranston, R.I., and Seekonk, Mass.

Tasca added that Ford has assured him that Lincoln's designs will be distinct from Ford's and he added that artists' sketches of the redesigned 2013 MKZ sedan illustrate its difference from its Ford Fusion sibling. [via autonews - sub. required]
