MG decides to discontinue TF sports car, replacement car already on its way

2010 MG TF

Due to declining demand and component supply problems, MG has decided to terminate production of the TF sports car, 16 years after it debuted in the UK. Already, the Chinese-owned carmaker has confirmed that plans are underway for a replacement. MG Motor UK Ltd also confirmed that this model will be designed and developed in the UK, and that it is expected to arrive in two years. MG Motor UK Ltd sales and marketing boss Guy Jones said that a brand such as MG requires a true sports car in its lineup.

He added that as soon as its primary lineup of volume models is set in the UK, it will introduce one.

MG insiders are hesitant to provide official details about the new sports car, for fear of diminishing the showroom interest for the recently launched MG 6 saloon, and the upcoming MG 3, which is expected to be launched in the UK later this year.

Nevertheless, the insiders admit that experimental design and development work on the car is ongoing.
