Michael Robinson is GM’s new vice president of environment and safety policy

The slot that will be left by General Motors' vice president of environment, energy and safety policy, Beth Lowery, will be filled by Michael Robinson. Lowery, aged 53, will retire on October 1. In 1984, Robinson entered the hallways of GM as part of the company's legal staff and served in different positions as practice area manager on the legal staff and then managing attorney. He eventually became the North America general counsel in 2008.
Robinson was responsible for a variety of regulatory functions, including environmental and vehicle regulation policy as well as marketing and trade regulation issues. Robinson also held jobs in GM where he helped create the company's compliance activities and led development of the General Motors Guidelines for Employee Conduct. During the 1990s, he also provided counsel to GM leadership on matters involving lobbying and government ethics.
Robinson earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the College of the Holy Cross in 1977 and was an officer in the U.S. Air Force from 1977 to 1981. He received a master's degree in political science and international relations from Oklahoma State University in 1980 and a law degree from Villanova University in 1984.
