Microsoft Hohm energy management application for Ford’s electric vehicles

Ford announced today at the New York Auto Show that in cooperation with Microsoft Corp they are teaming up to implement the Microsoft Hohm energy management application for Ford‚ electric vehicles.
The new Microsoft Hohm will be offered to Ford car owners for free and according to Ford, it will help owners to determine when and how to most efficiently and affordably recharge battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles. “Hohm, an Internet-based service, is designed to help customers avoid unnecessary expense by providing insight into their energy usage patterns and suggesting recommendations to increase conservation”, said Ford. The move also expands the link between Microsoft and Ford and promises to be a significant step in development of the infrastructure that will make electric vehicles successful.
The first electric vehicle was introduced by Ford this year, a Transit Connect Electric while the next ones (five) will be introduced by 2012.
