MINI Beachcomber Concept
As you may know already, MINI introduced the Beachcomber Concept in January, at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show, but after that it introduced the Countryman crossover and everybody forgot about the beautiful concept. Now, it appears that the Beachcomber Concept will be produced and company sources confirmed the fact that two versions of the car are currently on the drawing board at the MINI design studios in Munich. One of the cars is very close to the concept and it is dubbed the Moke, and the other is a shorter, three-door version known as the Canyon Coupe.
Furthermore, the company is also considering a sport version of the Countryman Coupe. Regarding the Moke, sources confirm the fact that this car is a pillarless of the Countryman platform, which will also be used on the next-generation MINI Clubman. It appears that the pillarless design will enable the fitting of rear-hinged rear doors.
Although the concept had no doors, it appears that the production version of the car will have four-doors in order to meet the side impact regulations. Regarding the Canyon Coupe, sources say that this is in fact a three-door interpretation of a beach car. This car uses a shorter Countryman platform and MINI designers are considering a permanent roofbox-style luggage space arrangement. [via autocar]
