A track duel is the latest marketing scheme crafted by Jim McDowell, the President of MINI USA. He asks that the Porsche 911 Carrera S rise to the challenge. McDowell, who had worked for Porsche for eight years, unveiled a Facebook campaign as well as an online video, inviting Detlev von Platen (CEO of Porsche's US arm) to have its 911 S race with the MINI Cooper S. MINI proposes for the race to be at the Road Atlanta a couple of weeks from now.

MINI also suggests that the two cars should have factory drivers behind the wheel. McDowell made a pledge that if this race pushes through, he will wear a shirt that says "We Beat Porsche" or "We Did Not Beat Porsche" at his next public appearance. When comparing the two cars, viewers should note that the MINI Cooper S weighs 2436.1 lbs (1105 kg), is a front wheel drive vehicle and is powered by a turbocharged 1.6 liter engine, which delivers 175 hp at 5,500 rpm and 240 Nm of torque at 1,600 rpm.

On the other hand, the Porsche 911 Carrera S weighs 3306.9 lbs (1500 kg), is a rear-wheel drive, rear-engined vehicle and is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.8 liter boxer powerplant, which generates 385 hp at 6,500 rpm and 309 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm. [source autoblog via jalopnik]
