MINI John Cooper Works (JCW) GP Coupe not coming?

2012 MINI Cooper S Coupe

MINI threw out the plan to make a JCW GP Coupe model even before the model arrived or became appreciated by buyers. MINI is apprehensive about the JCW GP two-door model with the belief that it would affect the R56 GP. The Coupe is the new performance flagship for the brand. It’s expected that a GP model would offer a better performance than the hard-top R56 GP version, which sits as the fastest MINI ever made with an incredible 8:19 Nurburgring lap time. It’s no wonder that MINI is hesitating. There are questions about the seriousness of the brand to build the Coupe as the automaker’s true halo model. Insiders say that it’s possible MINI didn’t cancel the project entirely but it has put an indefinite hold on plans to hasten the development and introduction o the bar. It’s possible that Mercedes is just doing this to buy some time. INI JCW GP Coupe has already been spied testing and so it’s likely it will do so in front of its dealers. [source: MotoringFile]
