Mini's lineup this year gets a boost with a reworking of its engine and the addition of a One Convertible. The range also gets a new Minimalism trim level, which aims to offer fuel economy and low CO2 emissions without affecting driver involvement. The most significant engine changes are centered on the Mini Cooper S model. The car is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter unit that has been increased by 9bhp to 181bhp, with peak torque of 177lb ft arriving at only 1600rpm.
CO2 emissions have been reduced by 13g/km to 136g/km and fuel economy is raised by up to 40.6mpg. As a result, the Cooper S can accelerate from zero to 62mph in 7.0 seconds and can reach a top speed of 141mph. The improvements to its power and efficiency were achieved by adding BMW's Valvetronic system, which optimizes the engine's response within fractions of a second. The Cooper model has also had its efficiency and performance improved. Meanwhile, the Mini One‚ displacement had been raised from 1.4-liters to 1.6.
Consequently, power has been increased by 3bhp to 97bhp; emissions were reduced to 127g/km and fuel economy has improved to 43.6mpg. Another vehicle that will be joining the range for the first time is an entry-level Mini One Convertible that is powered by the same 97bhp 1.6 as its hatchback sibling. The One, in the Convertible guise, can go from zero to 62mph in 11.3secs and has a top speed of 114mph. The final addition to the Mini range is the Minimalism trim level. This is made available only on One models and is only offered with the 1.6-liter engine mated to a six-speed manual with either 75bhp or 98bhp. In both guises, the Minimalism trim has emissions of 119g/km and fuel consumption of 46mpg. The Eco features in this model include stop-start and a gearshift indicator.
On the exterior, the features that stand out include more aerodynamic wheels and Pepper White design touches on the front grille and wing mirrors. [via diariomotor]
