Mini will present a new concept called "Goodwood" to the Shanghai Motor Show next month, according a company insider who spoke with Autoblog at the Geneva Auto Show. This concept is a very plush, hand-wrought hatchback that pays homage to the Rolls-Royce headquarters on the Goodwood estate as well as the Rolls-Royce/Bentley glory years of bespoke treatments by the in-house Mulliner Park Ward department. It can be considered as a high-margin fluff job for the current good-taste barometer nations such as China, Russia, India, Abu Dhabi and Switzerland.
In 1939, Coachbuilder Park Ward of London became a wholly owned part of Rolls-Royce/Bentley. H.J. Mulliner & Co. was absorbed in 1961.
Their workers came together under the Mulliner Park Ward bespoke umbrella. In 1998 when Rolls-Royce and Bentley were hewn asunder, Mulliner was later reconstituted under the Bentley brand as its bespoke group. Meanwhile, Park Ward lasted until 2002 at the end of the limited-run Rolls-Royce Park Ward extended-wheelbase model. [via Autoblog]
