Yesterday, Autocar reported that the current Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X is the last model of its kind and that the next-generation will not be produced. Apparently, the reason was that the Japanese manufacturer wants to focus more on electric vehicles and. Moreover, Mitsubishi wants to introduce at least eight full electric or hybrid cars by 2015. Same sources said that the diesel-hybrid version of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo was also put to rest.
Asked if the X will be the last Evolution model, Gayu Eusegi, Mitsubishi’s global product director said that it will be the last and hoped that someday the Japanese manufacturer could do a “motor race by electric vehicles”.
Today, the official answer from Mitsubishi came quickly via its Facebook page: “Further to some comments published in the press recently, production of the current Lancer Evolution continues as planned. As for its successor, regulations and market feedback will dictate its engineering package & architecture. Stay tuned.” This means that there is hope to see a next-generation Lancer Evo!
