The Lancer Evolution X, which debuted last year has met with some resounding success and has gained popular acceptance from both customers and media. After having undergone wide-ranging testing, the UK branch of Mitsubishi Motors has come up with a new addition to its already outstanding lineup: the much anticipated FQ-330 SST. Improved power output for the FQ-330 SST model comes from a breathing kit and a remapped ECU and a six month testing to reach the desired result. Both the acceleration and drive of the vehicle are enhanced though the power upgrade. The 329bhp power output is reached by the inclusion of a high performance exhaust and downpipe, an intercooler piping kit, racing suction pipe, and an upgraded CAT which brings in an extra 36bhp and 22lb-ft of torque when coupled to the advanced 6-speed Twin-Clutch Sports Shift Transmission.
The car takes advantage of the 6-speed TC-SST automated manual gearbox with magnesium paddle shifters mounted on the steering column. Said transmission separates the odd and even gears into different shafts, each coming with its own clutch, and switches between these two clutches to produce a nearly seamless and very fast gear change in both full auto and manual modes. The driver can select the Normal, Sport and Super Sport modes from a switch located at the base of the gear selector. The modes are designed for optimized shifts in a wide-range of driving conditions such as city driving or driving on roads with lots of bends.
Since the TC-SST employs clutches instead of a torque converter to channel energy it takes advantage of enhanced efficiency and fuel efficiency. Paint finish for the FQ-330 SST include Cool Silver (M), Orient Red (M), Lightning Blue (P), and Phantom Black (P) with metallic and pearlescent paint comes with the £35,999 price tag. The three year unlimited mileage warranty and pan-European breakdown and recovery service that Mitsubishi attaches to the reliability of the FQ-330 SST is testament of its high confidence in its product. With the Mitsubishi Service Plan, the first three-years or 30,000 mile servicing can be had for just £495. The FQ-330 SST has been rated a 20A by the insurance group in keeping with the 5-speed manual version with identical power level range.
