Mitsubishi to focus on producing eco-friendly vehicles

Although a lot of fans think of the Evolution when it comes to Mitsubishi, the fact is the company makes more money by the sale of big SUVs which means that it is affected profit-wise since there is a trend away from vehicles that guzzle gas. Because of this Mitsubishi has put a stopper on development of everything except those that are geared toward eco-friendliness.
Large vehicles are about to be a thing of the past as plug-in hybrids, electric vehicles and diminutives are slowly taking over. It is not certain what consequences this move has for the Evolution platform, but it really doesn't look good.
Since Mitsubishi cannot totally quit its SUV roots, the plan is to continue production of large cars and AWD SUVs but only this time they will be hybrids, while simultaneously focusing totally on electric cars on the smaller end. The initial product of Mitsubishi's eco move could be the production models of the iMiEV electric car while plug-in variants of SUVs and larger cars could be here by 2013, possibly.
