Mopar offers 2011 Challenger Drag Pak with V10 Viper engine

Mopar 2011 Challenger V10 Drag Pak
Mopar made sure that its 2011 Challenger Drag Pak will be nothing short of extraordinary by installing a V-10 into the coupe. Last year’s model, which was powered by a V-8, was already very fast but with the 2011 model being able to offer 600hp, it means that drivers get even more firepower at the strip. The 2011 Challenger Drag Pak actually has many features in common with previous Drag Pak applications. But while last year’s vehicle had a 6.1-liter V-8, Mopar gave the upcoming model an 8.4-liter V-10, which is similar to the powerplant in the late Viper. When this massive engine was installed in the Viper, it delivered 600hp and 560 pound-feet of torque.
However, these figures are likely to change as Mopar has calibrated the engine for drag duty. This car was built purposely for drag racing. It features a two-speed automatic transmission, live rear axle, and wheels and tires ready for the 1320. To make the car lighter, it was stripped of windshield wipers, heating and cooling, power steering, and rear seats. Instead, the car was given a pair of lightweight seats, new gauges, and a fuel cell.
The standard paint scheme is white but buyers may choose other colors that will add $6800 to the final price. Priced at $85,512, the Challenger Drag Pak could not be used on public roads. For the drivers’ safety, the Competition Package offers safety equipment that includes a roll cage, mesh window netting, and six-point harnesses. This will set back the driver by $7950. The drag racer is set to debut at the Viper invitational in Salt Lake City, Utah, this week. It will also be showcased at next month’s Specialty Equipment Market Association Show (SEMA) in Las Vegas. The V-10 powered Challenger will begin production early next year.
