The launch of the 2+2 coupé, the Morgan EvaGT, will take place at the Geneva Motor Show in 2014. Delayed for over two years, the new EvaGT from Morgan Motor Company was initially believed to debut at the Geneva motor show next March. Its preliminary design was seen at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in the U.S. in 2010. However, it is currently in development of a magnesium alloy technology that it hopes to use in the design of the new machine.
In the last six months, Morgan secured funding from the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) to enable it to participate in and handle a £1.4 million collaborative project that makes use of revolutionary materials in a chassis application. This project, known as MagMog, started in November. The partners include design house Penso Consulting Ltd, panel supplier Superform Aluminium, Coventry University and Magnesium Elektron UK, which specializes in magnesium usage.
The project seeks to develop fitting technologies so that magnesium alloy could be used as the main material to build a body-in-white structure for the EvaGT. By using magnesium (which is 30% less dense than aluminum), the structural performance of the chassis will be improved. Its comparative weight would also be reduced. [source: Autocar]
