Avon Tyres unveils new 3D Ultra sports tyres

Article by Anita Panait, on March 28, 2012

Avon Tyres’ new 3D Ultra sports tyres impressed onlookers during its official launch at the Almeria circuit in Spain. Gracing the official unveiling of the 3D Ultra sports tyres were customers and journalists from Europe and around the world. The launch was not without any setbacks as the weather didn’t cooperate with the event.

Onlookers were supposed to have an early taste of the new sports tyres, but no thanks to snow and rain in the morning, they have to wait until the 2.6-mile track went dry. The weather was more pleasant in the afternoon, allowing the organizer to put the 3D Ultra sports tyres into test.Drivers who tested the tyres included very seasoned racers, and as soon as they completed their rides, all they could do was to praise the Avon 3D Ultras.

All members of the 3D Ultra range share some advanced features. The sports tyres feature 3D sipes cut into the tread of the tyres, highlighted by interlocking three-dimensional points that improve stability, grip, limiting tread flex and allowing the tyre to warm-up in less time. Avon also used a new design of wind-on-belt material during the construction of the rear tyres, which help to increase the footprint size at all lean angles, thus improving grip.

Avon used Triple Extrusion or ‘TE’ tread compounds to produce durable rubber that makes up centre of the tyre, providing good mileage. Avon also used softer compounds on the shoulders of the tyre to increase grip in the corners. Avon used a third compound below that binds the two materials and helps the tyre stay cooler. Avon has included the unique Avon Road Hazard Warranty on both 3D Ultra Sport and Supersport variants.
