Lamborghini’s 2016 race calendar is out

The new 2016 race calendar for the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe, North America and Asia series was announced for all the three series during the World Finals on Nov 21, 2015 being held at Sebring International Raceway.

The event will feature six double rounds, including circuit debuts and two street races, on the world’s 17 most iconic circuits. A six-venue, 12-round schedule is on the charts for the North American series. Now in its fourth season, the North American series will conduct 10 out of 12 races on exciting North American circuits, following which the event will travel to Valencia, Spain for the 2016 World Final where the final two rounds will run and finally the three Super Trofeo series will face each other’s competition.

The first event lined up with the season’s opening will be held from April 29th to May 1st at the Monterey based Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in California. This will be in concurrence with the Weather Tech Sports Car Championship organised by the IMSA, i.e. International Motor Sports Association. The second round is planned from June 29th to July 1st in Watkins Glen, New York at the Watkins Glen International.

The next round for the Super Trofeo North America will be executed from August 5th to 7th for the first time ever at the legendary Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, and it will be followed by the inauguration of the Boston Grand Prix on September 2nd to 4th.

This first street course event in the North American series will run in concurrence with the Verizon IndyCar Series. The event will continue for the season from Sep 14th to 16th at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas where the final two North American rounds will take place.

The winning teams from here will move for Valencia, Spain to run the final two races of the North American season. Both the World Final races will be held at the Circuito de la Cominidad Valencia Ricardo Tormo in conjunction with the Asian and European series from Nov 17th to 20th.

Since its inception in 2013, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series for North America has grown enormously with 2015 coming in with record grids. The Europe series will start off on April 23-24, in Monza, with the second event in Silverstone on May 14-15.

After a month, the Europe series will see another event on France’s Paul Ricard circuit and during the famous 24hrs weekend, it will see yet another event in the end of July at Spa-Francorchamps. The series will further move to Nurburgring when it opens after the summer break on the Sep 17-18 weekend.

The Lamborghini Blanpain Super Trofeo Asia fifth season will kick off in Sepang in April. With the next rounds in Shanghai in May and a first time ever debut in Suzuka in June, the series then moves to another exciting round in the Thai circuit of Buriram in July.

For the second consecutive time, Sepang will host a street race which is planned in the same month too. Fuji will be hosting the sixth and final round. Lamborghini has made motorsport even more exciting with the launch of the new Huracan LP 620-2 Super Trofeo car and the Super Trofeo GT3 in the same line this year.

Both the models were developed as pioneers for Lamborghini Squadra Corse, and feature super advanced engineering which comply with the most stringent motorsport safety standards. The Huracan Super Trofeo has been fitted with a 620-horsepower V10 engine and provides a rear wheel drive.

The racing candidates as well the visiting guests will be able to enjoy the complete Lamborghini event with the entire amenities and state of the art facilities in Lamborghini Village. Plans of expansion have also been brought forward by Lamborghini with participation in GTD, i.e.GT Daytona with the Huracan GT3 at the famous 24 hours of Daytona.

After the seventh successful season of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe, which featured the debut of the new Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo, the series will continue alongside the Blancpain Endurance Series, the most demanding championship for GT racing in Europe.

The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo will kick off in Monza (Italy) over the 23/24 April weekend, followed by Silverstone (GBR) on the weekend of 14/15 May. One month later the series will race on France’s Paul Ricard circuit (24/25 June) and, at the end of July, it will be the turn of Spa-Francorchamps (BEL) during the prestigious 24hrs weekend. After the summer break, on the 17/18 September weekend, the series moves to the Nürburgring (DEU).

The calendar will then feature rounds in Shanghai (CHI) in May and make its series debut at a new circuit, Suzuka in June. Another intriguing round will be at the Thai circuit of Buriram in July. In the same month, for the second year in a row, the city of Sepang will host a street race. The sixth and final Asian round will be in Fuji (JAP) .
