Mercedes GP Petronas Formula One team presented

Article by Christian Andrei, on August 29, 2010

Mercedes-Benz fans have a lot to get excited about. The presentation event of the Mercedes GP team in Stuttgart was merely a teaser. The company had showed the public its new car's livery for the upcoming season of Formula One; however, the actual car was the one Brawn GP used last year to take the world title.

Mercedes GP's 2010 challenger will make its first public appearance during the Valencia test on February 1. Instead of being named the RB1 as had been reported by German media, the new car will be known as the MGP W01. It features Mercedes' classic silver colors, together with the title sponsor Petronas' logos all over it.

Mercedes' press release also stated that this season, we will see the return of the Silver Arrows and it will run alongside the MGP W01, "which will shine in silver combined with a flow of iridescent silver and green shading." On the nose and other parts of the car, there will be visible traces of black carbonfiber, a reminder of the first Silver Arrow of 1934.

The ceremony, which took place at Mercedes' museum in Stuttgart, was witnessed by more than 600 guests, including 200 media representatives and 200 Mercedes-Benz employees. Team manager Ross Brawn and race drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher also attended the event.

To mark the return of the Silver Arrows, the MGP W01 will race this season dressed in silver with iridescent silver and green shading. Traces of black carbon fiber can be found on the nose and other parts of the MGP W01, reminiscent of the first Silver Arrow of 1934.

Ross Brawn remarked that following the team’s hard work on the development of the MGP W01 throughout last year and over the winter, it’s looking ahead to commence the race car's testing in Valencia next week, especially that it has Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher as drivers.

Schumacher quipped that he is totally committed and motivated to the new challenge brought by the 2010 Formula One season. He noted that Mercedes GP Petronas is a World Champion team in "every sense of the word."

Rosberg, meanwhile, remarked that after seeing how hard the team is working on the MGP W01, he can't wait to test drive it for the first time in Valencia next week. He added that he would give his all to reward the team's efforts by producing good on-track results this season.
