Porsche announces entries for 2013 Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race

Two new Porsche 911 RSR race cars, which are based on the ‘Type 991’ model generation, at the Le Mans 24 Hours and in the World Endurance Championship for this year. The organisers ACO and FIA told reporters in Paris that these recently developed vehicles with the starting numbers 91 and 92 will be competing in the GTE class.

The two 911 RSR race cars will be run by the factory squad ‘Porsche AG Team Manthey. Porsche works drivers Marc Lieb (from Germany) and Richard Lietz (from Austria) will be behind the wheel of number 92 Porsche 911 RSR.

The two of them have already teamed up in the WEC last year. They will get reinforcement from their works driver colleague Romain Dumas (France) during the first two rounds of the season in Silverstone (on April 14) and Spa (May 4) as well as at the Le Mans 24 hour race (June 22).

Works drivers will also be steering the number 91 sister car. Joerg Bergmeister (Germany) is partnering with Patrick Pilet (France). Timo Bernhard (Germany) will be joining the duo in Silverstone, Spa and Le Mans.

In addition, the customer teams IMSA Performance Matmut and Felbermayr Proton have earned a starting place in the WEC and at Le Mans, putting the predecessor model (Type 997) Porsche 911 GT3 RSR in the GTE-Am category.

The IMSA Matmut 911 will be driven by Raymond Narac (France) and Jean-Karl Vernay (France) who will be participating in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup with the support from Porsche AG this year. Vernay is the current champion of the Porsche Carrera Cup France.

Furthermore, the customer team Dempsey Racing-Proton is pleased with its acceptance to participate in the Le Mans 24 Hours. Actor Patrick Dempsey will be returning this year after having joined the Le Mans race in 2009. P.S. The 2013 SRT Viper GTS-R is also returning for this year's Le Mans race!
