We get ideas on what to expect from the Renault's comebacking Alpine model from its exterior design chief Anthony Lo. Sources told Autocar that Renault is prepared to announce a tie-up with Caterham to form a new Alpine in a deal that will have Renault launching its own bespoke model based on the same platform. Lo suggested that the platform to be used on a new Alpine will be a totally new one, but reiterated that the official Renault line had to have a partner with common interests to make the Alpine rebirth possible. He also hinted that the Alpine revival would be based on a new platform, ruling out Lotus's Evora platform and Fiat Auto's Alfa 4C base as possible donor cars for the new Alpine. Last May at the Monaco Grand Prix in May, Renault unveiled an Alpine concept. Lo said that the DeZir styling on a Mégane Trophy racer is "misleading" in previewing the appearance of a potential Alpine production car. However, he said that this concept was necessary since it made them realize that for Alpine to work, it requires a package for its underpinnings.
