Even as a lack of financing has plagued the production of the new electric Trabant, we‚Äôre still very excited that it‚ coming to the Frankfurt Auto Show next month. Some of the readers may be too young to remember the Trabant, or Trabi, as it was called. It was the signature vehicle of East Germany before the Berlin wall was knocked down.
The new version is named the Trabant nT and carries a lithium-ion battery that gives it a range of about 250 kilometers (156 miles). The car will also spot photoelectric cells to power the A/C system. A complete list of specs has yet to be released but we do know that the van versions would sport exceptional payload. IndiKar is supporting the project. Electrics are supplied by IAV GmbH and design is by Poschwatta Nils, who worked at VW before pursuing the new Trabi project.
