New details of the upcoming Mazda (MX-5) Miata

2009 Mazda Roadster

Mazda held fast to the less weight and greater efficiency philosophy with the MX-5 Miata, but word is out that Mazda engineers are trying very hard to bring in smaller, force-fed powerplants and much lighter curb weights for the next generation model. Although there were speculations about a rotary-propelled MX-5, it's now highly unlikely. What is more probable is an MX-5 receiving a newly developed lineup of 4-cylinder units with direct injection and forced induction systems.

A more potent Miata that comes with the power of a MazdaSpeed3, for example, might move the new MGB into a new position on top of its category.

The Miata might, according to some speculation, come with an electric power steering system. It is hoped that even with Mazda's attempt at economy and efficiency, the Miata's drive will remain dynamic and pleasurable. Under the skin, nothing is certain but with descriptions like lighter being constantly used, it is probable that the chassis is going to experience some kind of re-engineering. Bodywork will be more aggressive than the MX-5.
