The Peugeot 408, the replacement for the 407, will be officially revealed later this year and will go on sale in the UK in 2010. "An evolution, not revolution," a company insider told Autocar. The style remains conservative and the insider also said that no drastic modifications were made. However, it does stand out from other mid-sized saloons due to its detailing and "hard-edged" looks. The insider said, "For the overall effect, think Insignia." A hybrid powertrain is featured in the lineup. Most likely it will come with a diesel engine rather than petrol. A hybrid 408 would be capable of class-leading economy and CO2 of less than 100g/km. Peugeot has pioneered the diesel hybrid in cars like the 3008 and plans to extend the technology to its next generation of saloons. [via autocar]
