New Vw Polo GTI coming with a 200 hp turbocharged 4-cylinder engine
Volkswagen is planning to reveal its new Polo GTI by next spring after several testing driven at the Nurburgring circuit. The new model, which will probably get also a five door sister, is powered by a 1.4-liter supercharged and turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, capable of 200 hp. The 3-door GTI will be available in two versions at choice, either with a 6-speed stick-shift or with a 7-speed DSG gearbox.
The company’s officials claim that they have put it all in order to keep traction in a small but very powerful front-drive car. For this they developed an electronically controlled “limited slip differential” system, which lightens the wheel spin due to the use of special applications of the front brakes. In terms of exterior design the new GTI will be upgraded, visible modifications will be seen at the front grille and spoilers. Continued after the jump!
In this range VW intends to launch other new Polo models, among which we can confirm the mini SUV named Cross Polo, an estate and a convertible one.
In performance terms, VW engineers have worked hard to extract up to 280 hp from the Polo’s diminutive 1.4-liter twin-charge engine.
The final plans for these other versions, beside the steering and traction touches, are to insert them in a free-frills, low-volume 150 hp Polo Cup.

Another VW that will NOT make it across the big pond to the USA. Too bad, but in reality, where would it be price-wise? A bare Golf GTI starts at $23500. or so, equipped well gets you into the $27,000 area. The new R series should be on the north side or $30,000 so where would this come in? I don’t think that VW of America will allow this to seel for less than $23,000, which if they did they could sell a ton of them. Talk about 0 - 60 speeds at 5 seconds flat. Of course that would shut up the Cobalt Ss, made by Government Motors and O’Bama headquarters. But still it would be nice to have a choice. Same goes for the Scirroco. VW of America, get of your but if you want to sell cars, bring them here. At least give us a choice and you a chance.
