2011 Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon
The CTS-V Sport Wagon, the next addition to Cadillac's athletic V-Series, was unveiled today at the New York Auto Show. The CTS-V Sport Wagon, which will be launched later this year, is equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that can deliver 556hp. For the debut of a special version of the wagon dubbed as a show car, Cadillac will use the bright lights of New York. This model won't go into production but some of its outfittings might be used for future trim packages. The show car is featured with a unique rear fascia and upper spoiler.
The CTS-V Sport Wagon rounds out the CTS line, which can loosely be considered as a subbrand for Cadillac. This car joins the landmark sedan, which has contributed to the brand's rebirth through design and performance, and the coupe which will launch this summer. All versions also now have V editions. Cadillac seeks to position its performance line similar to BMW's vaunted M models. Cadillac spokesman David Caldwell said that its actions wish to establish the V-Series as an important subbrand.
The CTS-V Sport Wagon is available with six-speed automatic and manual transmissions. It is able to push out 551 lb-ft of torque from the 376-cubic-inch engine with a cast aluminum block and roto-cast cylinder heads. It can accelerate to 60mph in less than four seconds, which is comparable with its V siblings. The wagon may appear massive but it loads on just 200 pounds over the sedan. The V6 wagons and sedans have 85% common parts between them.
The chassis is strengthened with magnetic ride control that has tour and sport settings, Brembo brakes and 19-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin PS2 tires. The rear-wheel-drive wagon is expected to have power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering and a limited-slip differential. The car is expected to get 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway.
